The Blue Hen Bass Anglers held their final regular season tournament on September 16th on the Susquehanna River. Many were wondering who would end up with the 2017 Angler Of The Year title. Well wonder no more... Nate Taylor dominated the event and put on a clinic to show why he is deserving of the AOY title.
The River fished extremely tough which was evident when defending AOY title holder Gary Snyder fell short of a limit with 3 fish for weigh in for 3.98 lbs. Gary had been leading this years race and was trying to fend off the surging Taylor. Nate had previously closed the gap to within 2.88 lbs following victories in the last two tournaments.
Snyder was not the only Angler that would struggle this day as many either zeroed or brought 1 or 2 fish to weigh in. Mark Robinson was able to bring a limit to the scale but they would only tally 5.58lbs. This was good for second place but not enough... Today, after several 2nd place AOY finishes, Nate Taylor would leave no doubt as to who is the 2017 Angler Of The Year. Nate significantly out performed the competition on this tough day by bagging a limit of 5 fish for 12.74 lbs. The limit also included the days lunker of 3.46 lbs. Taylor defeated the closest competitor by over 7 lbs with his impressive performance.
Taylor's victory not only sealed the AOY title but his name will be etched in the Blue Hen Bass Anglers record books as well. Nate's 2017 performance broke the clubs regular season weight record. The previous record was held by Gary Snyder at 53.34lbs. Nate exceeded the record by 1.8 lbs for a total of 55.14 lbs. Impressive indeed!
Taylor's record breaking season included four 5 fish limits through 6 tournaments as well as solid weights in the tournaments where he did not achieve a limit. Nate's time on the water and persistence has been rewarded with The AOY title. Congratulations and well deserved!
