On 4/15/18, the Blue Hen Bass Anglers held their first tournament of the year on the Nanticoke River. The weather made for an interesting event with temps starting in the 60's and falling to the 40's with wind and rain. A blow out low tide also added some navigational challenges for several of the anglers. However, wind, rain, and tides did not keep Gary Snyder from capturing his first win of the year. Gary was able to bag a limit of 6 fish that went for 12.68 lbs. His limit also included the lunker for the day at 3.48 lbs. This was a great start for Gary and his performance this day and reputation for consistent top 5 finishes may have placed him in the number one seed for the rest of the year.
Mark Robinson also brought a limit of fish to the scales for 10.16 lbs giving him 2nd place honors. Mark had reported that finesse baits were working for him in the Broad Creek section of the Nanticoke. Mark is coming off of his second Blue Hen Cup winning season and looks to be focused for 2018.
The third and final limit of the day was bagged by club President Glenn Tuckmantel. Tuck's 6 fish went for 7.94lbs and a third place finish. Tuck is coming off a nice 2017 season where he qualified to fish the Blue Hen Cup competition. He fell shy of a cup victory, finishing 2nd by only .56 of a pound.
In total, 13 anglers brought 34 fish to the scales for a total of 50.80 lbs.
Congratulations fellows on a fine start to the season.
Our next tournament will be held on the Susquehanna River out of Port Deposit in May.
